History

Shilo & Redmond History

Founded and chartered in the Spring of 2008, the Shilo & Redmond Railroad is a small but proud short line railroad operating in the Appalachian foothills of Georgia and primarily serving the town of Liberty. The S&R setup its first section of trackage at Liberty on October 1, 2008. Due to the instant demand for services, S&R began immediately on the Liberty Mountain branch which now services Liberty and surrounding areas of the foothills.

With momentum from successful rail service at Liberty, and the backing of several local area investors, the S&R secured a deal on October 29, 2011, to acquire a struggling short-line at Paradise City named, the Paradise and Sequoia Ridge Railway. The S&R has been doing regular exchange service and trackage rights leasing from the P&S, so the acquisition was a natural fit given its location and access to shared business opportunities. The P&S operated branches in Paradise City, Sequoia Ridge and Flint River. This acquisition included equipment, land, trackage rights and service contracts. P&S was consolidated into the Shilo & Redmond and continues to operate in the city of Paradise and the adjoining Sequoia Ridge and Flint River.

The S&R connects with several national rail lines including Norfolk Southern at Liberty and Paradise City, Union Pacific at Paradise City and CSX at Flint River.
